How Can You Go on Living?

Life Stories in the Aftermath of a Massacre

With Dawn FORD, Surviving Educator in the Sandy Hook Massacre, Jenny HUBBARD, Mother of Catherine Violet, murdered in the Sandy Hook Massacre, and Fr. Peter CAMERON, O.P., Editor-in-Chief of Magnificat

Presented by Crossroads Cultural Center

Very often, in front of a terrible tragedy, our instinct is to look away or to come up with quick solutions so that the unspeakable horror will never happen again. However, deep down we know that such problems are not easily solvable because evil cannot be completely eradicated, neither in ourselves, nor in the other. Therefore, in front of evil, a more urgent and real question is: How can we live with what already happened?

There are some people who cannot evade this question, and cannot take refuge in the endless debates about what to do. They are those who have been directly hit by the loss of a loved one, by the direct experience of senseless violence. Not only do we need to look at them in order to learn how it is possible to go on living in the face of tragedy, but, paradoxically they may also be the ones who can think most clearly about what can be done, for the simple reason that the experience of a great suffering makes them painfully aware of reality in all its complexity and depth. .

For these reasons we are profoundly grateful to Dawn Ford, Jenny Hubbard, and Fr. Peter Cameron who have accepted to share with us their experience of sorrow and life.

The event is free and open to the public.
