Legendary film director, John Huston, brings Flannery O’Connor’s dazzling first novel to life in his faithful rendition of the tale of Hazel Motes, a newly discharged and disillusioned army veteran who angrily denounces the Christianity of his childhood with single-minded intensity. ‘Haze’, in a brilliant performance by Brad Dourif (“One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest”), takes to the streets of a small Southern city to feverishly preach the message of his “Church Without Christ,” where “the deaf don’t hear, the blind don’t see, the lame don’t walk, and the dead stay that way,” and discovers a wildly surprising answer to the profound desires he cannot censor. New York Times film critic Vincent Canby said of Wise Blood, “Compelling… alive…one of John Huston’s most original, most stunning movies…the end effect of the film is exhilarating…”
